an opening conversation: marianne and midori nicolson
Artist Marianne Nicolson and biologist Midori Nicolson sit down to talk about the opening of Carried by rivers, held by lands, a group exhibition celebrating their multi-year initiative. They will introduce the Dzawada̱'enux̱w community installation and discuss how people, culture, and the Gwa'yi River are connected to each other. The conversation focuses on restoring traditional fishing technologies and cultural practices that were disrupted by colonization, and what it means for knowledge and people to return home. Through stories of the eulachon run and the river, they explore how cultural renewal and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. The talk starts at seven in the evening, and afterwards guests can stay for light refreshments and to walk through the exhibition.
